Building the Future of Health

June 3 10:00-11:00

Back to the Future

Are we capable of changing tack?

Although the earthquake of
3.6 on the Richter scale hitting Huizinge in 2012 caused a lot of distress, it was also a turning point: suddenly it became clear that the extraction of natural gas in Groningen leads to unacceptable risks. It also made people realize that the largest gas field in Western Europe would be depleted shortly after 2023. Since 2012, safety is a priority in considerations regarding natural gas. Residents are very worried about their personal safety, damage repairs and the value and reinforcement of their properties. These are understandable concerns, but we must also look ahead. What economic opportunities will there be in the future? What will the region look like in 25 years’ time? And are we capable of changing tack?
